From mobile transactions to the digital euro, the acceleration toward digital payments shows no signs of slowing. These developments could help to unite the underlying technology and fragmented infrastructure that has acted as one of the main barriers to the harmonisation of European payments. However, solving the interoperability issue continues to remain a challenge for the sector and as past payment initiatives have demonstrated, taking a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach is not always the most effective.
The Financial Times and McKinsey & Company hosted a drinks reception where attendees heard from a panel of industry experts who discussed the challenges of creating a harmonised European payment system and the technology and innovation that could help to make this a reality.
